Road trip USA: Vancouver to Seattle (254km)
Vancouver to Seattle (254km) was the first leg of the journey...This is where the driving started! We picked up the car in Vancouver, after failing to get the Chevy Impala we had requested we were given a Buick Allure, this didn't have an MP3 jack in it, so we explained our situation to the rental agent at National car hire, and our need for good music on our trip to Michigan! He was very understanding, and went out of his way to ensure we got a car with an MP3 jack in it, even though this meant upgrading us a Premium class car!
We left Vancouver in a trick Chrysler 300 (aka the pimp mobile), and began on our way, playing with all the toys (Air con, cruise control, electric seats, etc!) in the traffic as we left Vancouver! The Canadian/US border has a huge monument dedicated to the peace between to two countries! We were grilled at the border by a hispanic officer who couldn't understand why we were driving all the way to Detroit when we weren't getting paid for it, after parking up, and going to pay for our Visas we were on our way again for our big American adventure! (Note to self... American customs have no sense of humour so don't even think about that 9/11 joke) We soon stopped for a toilet break, and Lee took over the driving, it was the first time he had driven an Automatic, and he soon settled down into the complete ease of it all, once he'd taught his brain there was no clutch to play with!
The next stop was for some well need ed food, but the dodgy US service station sandwiches of cardboard and cheese slapped between the driest pieces of bread, made the UK service station sandwiches look like a slap up meal!
The seattle space needle was our first major stop on what seemed to be more of a tower tour! It seems every major city in the states has it's own tower! This seemed like a good place to get a feel for the city!Made famous by the movie "Sleepless in Seattle", the tower extends over 520feet high, it took the lift just 10 seconds to reach that height, and i was feeling a little woosy, and spaced out by the time we got to the top! We were blessed with such a good day as we could see for miles over the city of seattle! After spending about 1/2 hour up the space needle we went on a quest to find the IMAX, which was supposidly next to the aquarium, however, after much driving around, past the Real player offices, and being stuck crossing the train lines, (one train took over 4 mins to pass by as we filmed it) we eventually came to the conclusion that the IMAX has been knocked down, as there were 2 flattened building sites either side of the aquarium!
